My graduate degree is an MBA from Webster University. Shortly after I started working in Statoil I noticed that I had an above average interest in data and analytics. I therefore set my course at becoming a data scientist. I can’t say my course has always been clear to me so there has been some detours. The route to becoming a data scientist could also be more optimized depending on several factors like time and money. Anyways, underneath is my path towards becoming a data scientist.

To start off my basis was this checklist:

How to become a data scientist

2005 – 2008: MBA @ Webster University

2008 – 2012: Working with analytics in the Energy business. Online courses from Lynda.com on VBA programming and SQL database handling.

2012 -2014: Working experience with forecasting and optimization in Natural Gas trading. Online courses from Udacity on programming in python and CS50 Intro to computer science from Harvard.

2014 – present: Work experience with advanced analytics in Operations and Maintenance in the energy industry. Computer Science Bachelor degree at University of Stavanger. Data Science Specialisation from Johns Hopkins University through Coursera.

To be continued… 🙂
